Sketch is a freehand drawing. It is mainly done by artistic sense, experience and practice. As a profession sketching is done for the sake of making initial representation of any drawing, architecture or design. It often happens that the final drawings are still in the form of sketches, well that happens when the sketch is really fine and legible.

Most of the time, the sketches are made with pencils, graphites sticks. Nowadays there are many a instruments like graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels, various kinds of erasers, markers, styluses, and various metals. This variety of instruments has made sketching easy and a vast field as well, for so many people are interested to work in this field and prove their creativity. Today there is a variety of sketches that we can see around.
Sketches are made with a varying degree of hardness.
- For lighter lines and marks that does not blend well, typically harder graphite is used.
- For darker lines that do not need to be smudged, softer one is used.
Generally sketches are supposed to be black and white. Yes they are. But some artists try to add colors into them. Colored sketches have their own beauty and creativity. The very eloquent thing about them is that they give a real effect to the sketch as if it has life.
Colored sketches are mostly created with the help of colored pencils, pastels, ink pens and markers.
Why do sketches are made?
Sketches are made for various reasons. Some artists make sketches by purpose as a I mentioned earlier that sketching is an initial stage before making a drawing. But some artist do it as a passion. They have a craze of putting all that they have in their minds on a piece of paper and to relish themselves with their creativity and beauty by seeing them off and on. Some are interested to sell them or show them in some exhibition of-course to get fame and money, appreciation as well.
How to start with it?
For highly imaginative, creative and passionate people that also have strong artistic sense, sketching is a way to express their inner feelings, imaginations, vision, ideas, experiences and memories in pictorial form. They just have to decide what to draw, they close their eyes, start thinking until their hands start moving and once they are done we see how awfully a mere piece of paper is reflecting all that was in their mind. But not everyone is that imaginative. Well it is a quality given by nature, Yes it is. But as all scientists and entrepreneurs are not by birth artists can also be made not born and it depends on how it is taught.
For a person who thinks he/she cannot sketch the first thing that is needed is the inspiration. It is the inspiration that is going to create a passion for sketching. The next thing is how to start with it.
Steps for beginners:
At the very beginning it is not possible to create a sketch out of your imagination. The way to start with it is to take some picture from any book, magazine or Internet.Look at it carefully and deeply. Try to keep some major points in your mind about that picture and make your mood according to the theme of picture, for your mood and whatever your mind is reflecting at that time, plays pretty eloquent role in what you are going to draw and how your sketch is going to look.
How to draw:
Now the question arises that how to draw a sketch. Before drawing a sketch keep in mind some important points.
1.First of all you need good quality paper to make great sketches.
2.Secondly you need the instrument with which you are going to draw for example a pencil or anything else.
3.You need an eraser to draw sketches fine and neat.
